A wound is a damage to one or more skin layers. The more skin layers that are damaged, the deeper and more critically the wound.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>If the wound is open, then it may need to be sutured. Therefore, you should contact your veterinarian. This must be done within very few hours, otherwise the veterinarians cannot sew the wound together without further surgery.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>If the wound is more superficial, there is a lot you can do yourself.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Care_of_%E2%80%9Ceveryday%E2%80%9D_wounds_and_scares\"><\/span>Care of &#8220;everyday&#8221; wounds and scares.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">Does your horse always come in from the field with new wounds and scares?<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"1\">Here you will find some good advice on wound care of everyday wounds and scars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"3\">Pictured is a deeper wound on a pony.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"4\">The wound sits on the left hind leg and all skin layers are broken.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"5\">Since the wound is located in an area with thin skin, it would not be possible to sew the wound, therefore we ourselves have to treat it.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-785\" src=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Heste-ben-med-saar.jpg\" alt=\"Heste ben med s\u00e5r\" width=\"250\" height=\"334\" \/><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_1_%E2%80%93_Make_sure_the_wound_is_clean\"><\/span><strong>Step 1 &#8211; Make sure the wound is clean<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"2\">The wound in the picture is completely clean and red, except for remnants of blood and fluids from the wound.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"3\">We do not recommend starting to wash the leg clean, as it can add unnecessary bacteria to the wound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If the wound was dirty, the wound will need to be washed before any treatment can continue.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"7\">If necessary, use a saline wound spray that cleanses with distilled saltwater.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"8\">By using a spray, you avoid aggravating the wound, as well as adding additional bacteria.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"10\">Wash as little as possible and only if the wound is dirty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"1\"><strong>NO GO! <\/strong>Never wash the wound in soap.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"2\">This is an old method, which according to<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"3\">The Danish Nurses&#8217; Council is not advised to clean wounds (DRS.dk).<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"4\">The reason is that soap requires thorough washing, which would possibly damage the wound further.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_2_%E2%80%93_Wound_care\"><\/span><strong>Step 2 &#8211; Wound care<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once the wound is clean, the formation of bacteria in the open wound must be prevented. This is done effectively with EQUUS CURA\u00b4s <a title=\"WOUND 30ml\" href=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/en\/vare\/wound-30-ml\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WOUND<\/a>, which does not contain chemically prepared disinfectants, but only 99% pure oregano oil in 1% solvent. Oregano is nature&#8217;s disinfectant, and thus works almost in the same way as the chemical disinfectants\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The advantage of using a natural disinfectant is that you preserve the skin&#8217;s natural bacterial flora, which results in faster and more natural healing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP!<\/strong> &#8211; Use <a title=\"WOUND 30ml\" href=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/en\/vare\/wound-30-ml\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WOUND<\/a> 2-3 times a week, and not more than that. The wound should have peace and time to heal. When you apply <a title=\"WOUND 30ml\" href=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/en\/vare\/wound-30-ml\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WOUND<\/a>, the wound will turn completely black after a few hours. This is a natural reaction to the product, which creates an extra layer to prevent dirt and grime from propagating in the wound.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NO GO!<\/strong> &#8211; Never mix with other products. Do not wash between treatments, except if there is dirt and grime in the wound.<\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer float\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnonewp-image-788\" src=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Heste-ben-med-saar-2.jpg\" alt=\"Heste ben med s\u00e5r\" width=\"187\" height=\"250\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnonewp-image-791\" src=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2-saar-paa-hest.jpg\" alt=\"2 s\u00e5r p\u00e5 hest\" width=\"184\" height=\"250\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnonewp-image-794\" src=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Et-saar-paa-en-hest.jpg\" alt=\"Et s\u00e5r p\u00e5 en hest\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Et-saar-paa-en-hest.jpg 262w, https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Et-saar-paa-en-hest-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/equuscura.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Et-saar-paa-en-hest-256x256.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The pictures show scabs, after 2 weeks of treatments with WOUND<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_3_%E2%80%93_Repeat_step_2_if_needed\"><\/span><strong>Step 3 &#8211; Repeat step 2 if needed\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"2\">All wounds must be treated differently.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"3\">It is therefore difficult to say how often a wound should be treated with products.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"4\">It must therefore be assessed by the horse&#8217;s owner.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"5\">The fewer times a product can be applied, the better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"7\">&#8211; Look at the wound.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"8\">If it emits liquid from the wound, then it should be treated further.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"9\">If there is the slightest hint of yellow \/ green dirt from the wound, the wound should be cleaned as in step 1 until the dirt is gone.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"10\">When the dirt is gone, repeat step 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember! &#8211; Keep an eye on the wound. Regardless of the extent and size of the wound, a wound should be examined daily. Complications can occur quickly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Contact_your_veterinarian_if\"><\/span>Contact your veterinarian if:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">Your horse has received a large deep wound or if you are in doubt.<\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"1\">Remember it is you who knows your horse best!<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If your horse gets a fever<\/li>\n<li>If your horse has a decreased appetite<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"4\">If the inflammation in the wound can not be controlled with normal<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"da\" data-phrase-index=\"5\">wound care<\/span><\/li>\n<li>If the area around the wound rises and becomes hot<\/li>\n<li>If the legs rise violently<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Before_after_images_of_wounds_treated_with_WOUND\"><\/span>Before \/ after images of wounds treated with WOUND<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Wounds on left hind leg.
